People’s United Financial Inc. is consolidating its four insurance agencies into a single unit, based in Hartford, The Connecticut Post reports.
The consolidation is part of the Bridgeport financial services company’s plan to gain brand recognition as it seeks to expand further into the New England area and Long Island, N.Y.
Beginning Jan. 1, all management of R.C. Knox; Beardsley Brown and Bassett; the Chittenden Insurance Group; and Bank of Smithtown Insurance Agents and Brokers Inc. will become part of the People’s United Insurance Agency, which will be based in Hartford.
Earlier this year, People’s United rebranded its group of retail banks, including Chittenden, as People’s United Bank.
