Paul Simon raises money for Norwalk hospital

They didn’t call him Al, but Norwalk Hospital officials say musician Paul Simon was a huge help as they sold out their annual fundraiser for the first time in three years.

Simon, who lives in New Canaan, played at the hospital’s Heart and Soul Gala on Saturday night.

The hospital foundation president, Mary Franco, says the event was expected to raise just under $1 million for patient-care initiatives. More than 425 people attended the $500 per ticket fundraiser, with the option of paying $1,500 to meet Simon at a private reception.

Simon soared to popularity in the 1960s with partner Art Garfunkel, then went on to a successful solo career with hits including “You Can Call Me Al,” “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover,” and “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard.” (AP)
