Pasqualoni fired as UConn football coach

The UConn athletic department announced Monday morning that head football coach Paul Pasqualoni has been fired.

Pasqualoni, who took over the UConn football program in 2011 after the departure of Randy Edsall, has been under intense criticism for his teams sub-par performance.

UConn has lost all four of its games this season, including its most recent 41-12 against Buffalo Saturday. His overall record at UConn was 10-18.

In addition, UConn has also fired associate head coach and offensive line head coach George DeLeone.

The school expects to announce an interim head coach by this afternoon.

“I am making this change in our football coaching staff now as we approach the conference season to see an improved performance from our football program,” said UConn athletic director Ward Manuel. “I am disappointed in the record of our team thus far, but I am confident that our coaching staff and student-athletes will continue to work hard to improve and that will be reflected on the field of play as we start our American Athletic Conference season.”

Pasqualoni will receive a $750,000 payment from UConn to satisfy “all financial obligations,” of his contract, the school said.
