Parking spaces to grow grass Friday

This Friday, artists will convert 12 downtown Hartford parking spaces into temporary parks, the city announced.

It’s the second year in a row Hartford has held a “Park(ing) Day.” The idea was first conceived of in San Francisco as a statement against urban sprawl.

The sodded pop-up parks can be found between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Friday on Trumbull, Main, Pearl, Pratt, Asylum and Arch streets.

The event is organized by Civic Mind, the Greater Hartford Arts Council, the Hartford Business Improvement District, Knox Inc., the iQuilt Partnership and various city departments.
