Panera’s downtown cafe opening Saturdays

Downtown Hartford’s Panera Bread bakery-café, open barely a month, is extending its weekdays hours to Saturdays for breakfast and lunch, starting June 22.

Panera opened May 13 on Main Street, at 10 State House Square. Weekday hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; soon Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Even before opening day we heard from many Hartford residents and those who frequent Hartford on the weekends for expos and entertainment, asking us to consider being open on weekends” Wendy Kopp, marketing director for Panera Bread/Howley Bread Group, said Tuesday.

Kopp said the shop’s continued success weekdays, and eventually  Saturdays, could lead to expanded service hours and days.

Howley Bread Group owns and operates 26 bakery-cafes – 14 in central and eastern Connecticut; and the rest in Rhode Island, and southeastern Massachusetts.
