P2 Science debuts ‘most ambitious’ green chem product yet

Woodbridge-based P2 Science launched the latest in its line of green chemistry products this week, announcing the debut of CitroComplex Hair.

The new “natural oil complex” is designed to be used in hair care products and protects hair from heat and UV damage in addition to offering hydration and moisture retention, frizz reduction, detangling, shine and gloss, according to a company statement.

Derived from upcycled forestry byproducts, CitroComplex Hair was created using P2’s proprietary green chemistry platform. The new product is under production at P2’s manufacturing facility in Naugatuck.

P2 CEO Neil Burns said, “CitroComplex Hair is, by far, our most ambitious product yet and we can’t wait to share it with our customers around the world.”

“There’s been an overwhelming demand for sustainable hair care ingredients that don’t compromise on performance,” added Ryan Cheng, VP of business development at P2.

CitroComplex Hair is the 15th product commercialized by P2 since April 2020.

Other products include a cosmetic butter for skin and hair introduced late last year. Earlier in 2021, P2 launched Herbenone, a novel herbal aroma chemical that imparts the scents of basil and jasmine.

BASF and Chanel have joined in funding rounds for P2 Science, and the company has a deal with food-processing giant Archer-Midland-Daniels.
