Oxford taproom debuts THC-infused drink vending to coincide with legal changes

Black Hog Brewing says it will host a vending machine at its Oxford taproom that will dispense locally made THC-infused drinks.

The machine will feature 5 mg THC beverages from Fizz Social Soda, Hi! People, LIFTD and BUDR. All four brands are manufactured on-site by CT Canning, Black Hog’s contract beverage manufacturing operation.

Purchases will be for consumption off the premises only.

The launch coincides with changes under Connecticut Public Act 26-8 taking effect Oct. 1.

The changes include an increase in the allowable THC content of infused beverages from 3 mg to 5 mg per container and authorization for licensed infused beverage manufacturers to sell their products directly to adults for off-premises consumption.

Guests can purchase tokens at the taproom’s point of sale after staff verify their age. Each token can be redeemed for one can from the Garden Beverage Vending Machine. Purchases are limited to 12 cans per person per day.

The companies involved in the collaboration say they deliberately chose the vending machine experience rather than selling from behind the bar.

“A cooler behind the bar is boring,” said David Salinas, founder of LIFTD and Hi! People. “We want people to walk up, look at the whole lineup, and pick a few for themselves, it’s more fun and interactive plus brings in some nostalgia.”

The vending machine operation will go live at the taproom Oct.1.
