Otis to redo Empire State Building’s elevators

Otis Elevator Co., the nation’s best-known elevator manufacturer based in Farmington, is preparing to replace and modernize the iconic New York Empire State Building’s elevators.

Price tag for the replacement of 68 elevator cars and upgrades to the 13-ton service machines inside the 102-story retail-office tower in Manhattan was not disclosed Thursday.

Otis officials say it will be the biggest job in the company’s 158-year history.
