Farmington people mover Otis Elevator Company announced Tuesday its Way to Green initiative to make all aspects of its operations environmentally friendly.
As part of the initiative, Otis — a subsidiary of Hartford conglomerate United Technologies Corp. — will recycle 97 percent of the waste from its operations; design and produce energy efficient products that include LED lighting; install renewable energy and seek LEED certification at its facilities; and reduce water consumption company-wide by 12 percent.
“As a worldwide leader, Otis has been working hard to establish a direction for our industry that preserves the planet for future generations,” Otis president Didier Michaud-Daniel said in a statement. “We have introduced energy-efficient products and established two sustainable manufacturing sites, while reducing our greenhouse gas emissions.”
Otis will take part in UTC’s voluntary program to reduce energy intensity by 25 percent.
