Farmington-based Otis Elevator will bring at least 360 jobs and invest a minimum of $40 million to an operation in Florence, S.C., SC Now.com reports.
The online news outlet reports Thursday that the Florence County Council gave final approval to an economic incentiive package aimed at luring Otis, a unit of United Technologies Corp.
According to SC Now, the 360 Otis jobs would pay an average wage of $25 per hour.
But to collect the incentives, the company also must meet certain unspecified benchmarks within a prescribed period or loss some or all of them.
Those incentives include a $1,000 cash rebate to the company for every Florence County resident who is employed at the site for at least three years, up to 400 employees, a potential local grant of $400,000.
No other information on the size, location or scale of the proposal operation was immediately available.
“We are currently in discussion with authorities down there about a possible investment,” said Otis spokeswoman Michele Batty.
Batty declined to elaborate on precisely what kind of operation Otis is considering, citing the ongoing nature of the discussions.
Otis has four branches in South Carolina.
