OSHA cites Bristol company for safety violations

A Bristol company has been cited for alleged violations of federal safety standards at a hotel construction site in Madison, The Associated Press reports.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has proposed fines totaling $143,000 against Champion Builders LLC, a steel erection contractor.

OSHA said Thursday that among other violations employees were exposed to falls of more than 50 feet while working without protection on the building’s roof. OSHA area director Robert Kowalski said the company has a history of similar problems.

Champion Builders said nobody was immediately available to comment on the citations.
