OSHA asks $110K fine from N. London firm

A New London contractor faces $110,000 in federal fines for alleged serious workplace safety violations at an Old Lyme roofing job, authorities say. OSHA also labeled the firm a repeat violator.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration said Tuesday it cited G.A. Denison & Sons Inc. for 14 alleged willful and serious violations of workplace safety standards involving workers and scaffolding at roofing job site at 69 Lyme St.

OSHA said the alleged safety violations were spotted June 7, when Denison employees were seen being exposed to falls from heights of 15 feet to 26 feet while working without protection.

Workers also were toiling without hard hats, the agency said.

Denison has 15 days to file an appeal.

Owner George Denison told HBJ Today Tuesday that he is scheduled to meet next week with OSHA officials but until then, he declined further comment.

OSHA said Denison & Sons has been placed in its Severe Violator Enforcement Program, which mandates targeted follow-up inspections to ensure compliance with the law.
