A two-story retail building along the busy Berlin Turnpike that housed the first Bob’s Discount Furniture store beginning in 1991 recently sold for $2.37 million.
In a deed recorded Wednesday, the Harriet Cohen Revocable Indenture Trust sold the 15,788-square-foot, 1960-vintage building on nearly 1 acre of land at 3203 Berlin Turnpike to 200 Smith Way LLC, of Newington.
The buying limited liability company’s principal is Jan Kania, the president of Lynn Welding, in Newington.
Kania, a Berlin resident, would only say that he bought the property as an investment when reached Friday.
Evan Berman, of the William Raveis Broder Team, was the listing agent for the property. He said it saw strong interest and drew two offers, one to lease and the other to purchase, before going under contract late last year.
Berman noted the property sits on one corner of a busy intersection in a heavily trafficked commercial and retail artery in Newington. The property offers ample parking and great visibility to potential customers, he said.
Berman said he believes the new owner intends to lease out the property.
