Orange food company launches new look

An Orange-based health and snack food company has given its products a colorful makeover.

Aurora Products Inc., located on Edison Road, is known for its all-natural and organic dried fruits, nuts, granolas and trail mixes.

The family-owned and -operated company recently introduced new packaging featuring color-coding. The company’s snacks are typically found in the produce or natural-food sections of grocery stores around the country, including Stop & Shop, Giant, Shaw’s, Shop Rite, Whole Foods, A&P, Big Y, Acme, Pathmark and others.

The idea behind the change was to make it easier and more convenient for customers to find the exact product they want, according to the company.

Stephanie Blackwell, who established the company in 1998, said they wanted the packaging to have a more “wholesome” look.

“We wanted to give consumers a more realistic portrayal of who Aurora is, which is all-natural and organic,” Blackwell said. “We wanted a down-to-earth look, so when someone thinks of Aurora, they know it is a natural product.”

The revamped packaging includes earth-toned backgrounds with a color-coded flag system.

The flag colors for the company’s all-natural products include lavender for sweet treats, red for dried fruit, orange for unsalted nuts, brown for raw, light green for salted, blue for trail mixes, and pine green for other items, according to the company.

For example, dried, whole cranberries come with a red “dried fruit” flag, and macadamias and other nuts have a green flag if they come with salt. A brown flag on the label for brazil nuts lets customers know the product is “raw.” The company’s all-organic products have a pine green background.

Company officials say they are committed to providing healthy products and maintaining a sustainable environment. They use recycled plastics for packaging, and make efforts to conserve energy at the plant, according to the company’s website.

“We care very deeply in helping consumers live a healthier lifestyle and want to provide beneficial options for their busy lives,” the company said in an announcement.
