Operation Fuel offers energy assistance program

Bloomfield non-profit Operation Fuel will run an emergency energy assistance program for Connecticut utility customers who have had their utility service terminated or are in danger of losing their service due to financial need.

The program, which began Wednesday, will run through Oct. 31 or until funds are exhausted. Households that meet specific requirements will be eligible to receive a one-time grant up to $500.

The program aims to aid the thousands of households statewide that could potentially lose utility services until the state-mandated Winter Protection Program begins again on November 1.

Operation Fuel, a member of the National Fuel Funds Network, provides emergency energy assistance to lower-income working families, the elderly and disabled individuals who are in financial crisis and ineligible for energy assistance from government funded programs.
