East Hartford’s Onyx Spirits Co. will expand its product offerings Friday with the introduction of the moonshine maker’s first whiskey.
Onyx, which since 2011 has billed itself as the first maker of legal moonshine in New England, said it aged its moonshine in oak barrels to turn it into a 91-proof whiskey.
The company has spread the 33 barrels — about 216 gallons or 1,089 bottles —solely in Connecticut. It said 31 package stores and two restaurants will carry the product, known as Onyx Secret Stash Moonshine.
