Online casino operator to hire up to 400 workers in CT

A live casino operator for digital platforms, Evolution Gaming, began operating in Connecticut on Monday.

The Swedish company, which has about 140 employees in Connecticut, is expected to hire up to 400 workers at its newly built studio in Fairfield. Those include technical, production, administrative and information technology positions, and security.

“With the addition of Evolution, we are continuing to provide a modern, technologically advanced gaming experience that provides an elevated user experience for eligible residents and is competitive with our neighboring states,” Gov. Ned Lamont said.

Last year, Lamont signed into law a new statute legalizing online casino and sports gambling.

In Hartford, the Capital Region Development Authority is moving forward with plans to add a sports betting lounge and restaurant to the XL Center, with hopes of opening it in time for the fall football season. Construction on the sports betting facility is currently underway.

Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull said the agency’s gaming division has worked to ensure Evolution meets state regulations to “create a safe and successful opportunity for live dealer games.”

Evolution opened Monday with a seven-day soft launch, authorized by the DCP.

Evolution provides live dealer games on the FanDuel and DraftKings iCasino platforms. During the soft launch, only blackjack and roulette tables will be available.

The full launch is set for 11 a.m. on July 18.

Previously, Evolution Gaming was accused of operating in black markets in a lawsuit filed in New Jersey. The company said at the time that it “strictly complies with all applicable laws and regulations.”
