Online career fair promoting CT trade schools opens Wednesday

Students across the state will have an opportunity to learn about career tracks available through post-secondary occupational schools when CareerConn, a one-day online “career school fair,” opens Wednesday.

In a video promoting the event, Gov. Ned Lamont stressed the importance of pairing students with viable career options as Connecticut’s economy, still navigating the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic, continues to reopen and shift toward normalcy.

CareerConn is intended to serve as a virtual in-school field trip, with rolling registration, organizers noted. Students will be able to log in any time between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Organizers said the event will feature video presentations, virtual exhibit booths, and live, one-on-one conversations with advisors. Representatives of more than 25 occupational schools will be on hand to answer questions about their school’s programs, admissions requirements, application process, tuition, and financial aid, among other topics.

Timothy Larson, executive director of the Connecticut Office of Higher Education, emphasized that the event is not a job fair but an “opportunity to learn more about career opportunities available in Connecticut that do not require a four-year college degree” in fields such as health care, hospitality, manufacturing, construction, computer coding, automotive work, and cosmetology.
