New home-building activity in Connecticut rose slightly in January, with Old Saybrook leading the region, according to new figures from the state Department of Economic and Community Development.
Across Connecticut, 104 cities and towns issued 297 new housing permits in January, up from 290 in Jan. 2017. Housing activity also increased since December, when 281 permits were issued. The report only includes municipalities tracked by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Among New Haven and Middlesex County communities, Old Saybrook issued the most permits, at 15, followed by Milford, which issued 11. Statewide, East Windsor issued the most permits, at 122.
Most of the permits issued were for dwellings with five or more units (178) or single-family homes (109), the report said.
