Old Saybrook hires CT deputy treasurer as finance director

The Town of Old Saybrook has named Connecticut Deputy Treasurer Sarah Sanders as its next finance director.

Sanders will begin the role Sept. 1, becoming the town’s third finance director since the position was created in 2014.

She has worked in the Connecticut Office of the Treasurer for 26 years and has served as deputy treasurer since January 2023.

According to the town, her experience includes cash and debt management, municipal pension fund investments, bond financing, credit rating initiatives and financial system improvements.

Sanders will succeed Lee Ann Palladino, who retired May 15 after serving as Old Saybrook’s finance director for 11 years.

Palladino has continued in the position on an interim, part-time basis and will remain until Sanders assumes the role.

Old Saybrook First Selectman Carl Fortuna said Sanders’ background in public finance made her the top choice to oversee the town’s finance department. The town also noted that it received a Moody’s credit rating upgrade from Aa2 to Aa1 over the past year.
