New Britain-based manufacturer OKAY Industries has added plastic and insert molding capabilities to its lineup of medical device components, company officials said.
The new services are now being offered at its headquarters and at a facility in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
Company officials said OKAY purchased both horizontal and rotary vertical molding machines and added more automation systems, inspection equipment and quality control technology to the facilities. The new methods allow for increased design flexibility and more variety of shapes, styles and options of the components it makes, the company said.

OKAY officials said plastic and insert molding have been increasingly common in medical devices. Plastic molding components are often used in medical parts for surgical, endoscopic, laparoscopic and ligation applications, they said.
