The state Office of Health Strategy on Wednesday launched a new web tool that helps consumers and others assess the quality of hospitals and provider networks in Connecticut.
The Healthscore CT website’s interactive “quality scorecard” has 15 quality measures for providers, from breast cancer screenings to patient experience metrics like timely care.
The site was funded by a four-year $45 million State Innovation Model federal grant awarded in 2014.
In September, OHS said it plans to add a cost comparison function to the website, which will allow users to see the cost of a specific procedures from specific providers.
The cost tool will draw its data from the state’s All Payer Claims Database.
OHS was given oversight of the database — which has faced delays and setbacks over the years — when the legislature created the agency in 2017.
OHS said it would be the first use of APCD data since it took control over the database.
“We are all healthcare consumers at one point or another in our lives,” OHS Executive Director Vicki Veltri said in a statement. “Healthscore CT gives people the resources to make better healthcare decisions and gives providers an opportunity to improve the cost and quality of the care they deliver.”
