Oh Shito! And other emerging food brands to be featured at Atticus event

A fiery hot sauce with the evocative name of Oh Shito! will be one of the products on offer at the first CT Food Launchpad “pitch night” next Monday at Atticus Market in New Haven.

Buyers from grocers and restaurants are the intended audience for the event, held at Atticus’s new store at 771 Orange St. in the East Rock neighborhood on Aug. 30 from 4-7 p.m. Tickets for the general public are available at Eventbrite.

Presenters for Monday’s event include:

  • Oh Shito (Ghanaian hot sauce)
  • Sanctuary Kitchen (Middle Eastern baked goods)
  • Bo-yi (East Asian superfood tea)
  • East Rock Apiary (Connecticut honey)
  • Angela’s Kitchen (artisan red sauce)
  • Ilse coffee (specialty coffee)
  • KD Crop Farms (Connecticut-grown pickles, salsas and relishes)
  • Fire Ox (plant-based frozen meals)
  • Huneebee Project (Honey tarts)
  • Atticus Bakery (artisan baked goods)

Based on a condiment from Ghana, Oh Shito! combines scotch bonnet peppers with garlic, ginger, spices and meat flavors. The Asare family makes the sauce using fresh produce and meats from local markets in Connecticut, according to the company website. Kwame Asare came up with the sauce idea after a trip to Ghana in 2019.

Atticus established CT Food Launchpad earlier this year to help early-stage food ventures in the New Haven area commercialize their products and gain market share at Connecticut stores and restaurants.

Entrepreneurs first pitch their products, then compete to be included in the Atticus program, which focuses on recipe optimization, product launch and distribution.

Atticus plans a second “pitch night” for the fall and food entrepreneurs are encourage to contact CT Food Launchpad to be considered for the event.
