Officials assess damage to homes near power plant

Connecticut state and local officials will be meeting with Portland residents whose homes were damaged by an explosion at a power plant across the Connecticut River in Middletown.

State Rep. James O’Rourke, state Sen. Eileen Daily and Portland First Selectwoman Susan Bransfield are scheduled to meet with local residents at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wellwyn Drive and Lyman Street. They will be assessing damage to homes and listening to other concerns.

Sunday’s explosion at the Kleen Energy plant killed five people and injured a dozen others. It was felt miles away, and some Portland residents say the blast broke windows and caused other damage to their homes.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. (AP)
