Official: UConn failed to report audit findings

Accusations continue to dog the high-profile construction and renovation program at the University of Connecticut.

A member of the university’s construction committee has accused UConn of breaking state law because he said it failed to report audit findings showing that the university shifted construction money between accounts without approval.

Charles Urso, a member of the oversight committee that monitors construction, called for an independent audit to look into the university’s past practice of transferring costs between projects.

Karen Grava, a spokeswoman for the university, said the university turns over all internal reports to the state auditors.

John Rowe, chairman of the board of trustees, objected to Urso’s call for another audit. He said the committee’s job is to ensure that the university is properly handling the UConn 2000 construction, not returning to arguments over previous mistakes.

Trustee Peter Drotch said the university has adopted many costly and redundant controls.
