• Lisa Davis of Glastonbury has been reappointed to the state’s Council on Developmental Disabilities. Davis, a registered nurse, serves as the State of Connecticut’s Maternal and Child Health Director. As section chief of the state Department of Public Health’s Family Health division, she is responsible for $25 million in federal and state funds that go toward several major programs, including Connecticut’s community health centers and school-based health centers.

 

• Connecticut Water has been recognized in the 2009 edition of America’s Finest Companies, published by financial coaches Bill and Mary Staton of The Staton Institute and Staton Financial Advisors LLC. Connecticut Water has been recognized as one of America’s Finest Companies by the Staton Institute in all 18 editions of its directory.

• Covanta Projects of Wallingford has earned entry into the Voluntary Protection Program of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The Wallingford trash-to-energy facility was admitted for three year’s participation at the star level, the program’s highest level of achievement. Eighteen other worksites in Connecticut are currently in the Voluntary Protection Program, including Covanta facilities in Bristol, Hartford and Preston.

 

• ING, the Dutch insurer with major operations in Hartford, said its commitment to purchasing environmentally friendly electricity earned it a 2008 Green Power Leadership Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The annual awards recognize the country’s leading green power purchasers for their commitment and contribution to helping advance the development of the nation’s voluntary green power market. ING said it currently ranks No. 42 on EPA’s national Top 50 list of green power partners.

• MidState Medical Center president and CEO Lucille Janatka was honored as the recipient of the 2008 Athena Award at a program held by the Quinnipiac Chamber of Commerce. Janatka was one of eight nominees up for the award, which recognizes leaders who assist women in reaching their full potential and who demonstrate excellence, creativity and initiative in their work.
