• The Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation in Bloomfield received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, the second four-star rating in two years. The non-profit organization that helps donors make informed giving decisions rated Fidelco based on financial health and management of its day-to-day operational functionality.
• Connecticut was awarded a $13.2 million grant from the National Math and Science Initiative Advanced Placement training and incentive program. The goal is to prepare students to excel in math, science and English and to encourage science and technology careers. The grant will help fund programs for the next six years.
• Twenty volunteers from Northeast Utilities worked at two sites of Community Mental Health Affiliates Inc. in New Britain. The work was completed as part of the United Way of the Capital Area’s Day of Caring.
