• This year the Connecticut Broadcaster’s Association will present more than $40,000 in college scholarships. The following local students are scholarship recipients: Michael MacLauchlan, Somers, Quinnipiac University; Leroy Moton, Hartford, University of Connecticut; Jason Swols, Windsor Locks, University of New Haven; and Christopher Golden, Coventry, American University.

• Hospitals for a Healthy Environment recognized Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford with the 2007 Partners for Change Award in support of the hospital’s achievements in improving environmental performance.

 

• The following nurses of Eastern Connecticut Health Network were presented with Nightingale Awards for excellence in nursing, including showing commitment to the community and going beyond the call of duty: Judith Brown, Manchester Memorial Hospital (MMH), medical surgical unit; Katherine Hook, MMH, emergency department; Bernadette Kelley, MMH, behavioral health/adolescent unit; Cheryl Kenton, Rockville General Hospital (RGH), the birthplace; Bonnie Paquette, RGH, intensive care unit; Teresa Ritchie, Woodlake at Tolland, rehabilitation unit; Judith Winn, RGH, cardiac rehabilitation; and Shane Wiedeke, MMH, intensive care unit.
