• The following physicians on the staff of Eastern Connecticut Health Network were named among the best in the state in their specialties by Connecticut Magazine: Dr. Saumitra Banerjee, colorectal surgeon; Dr. Steven Brown, colorectal surgeon; Dr. David Cherry, colorectal surgeon; Dr. Bruce Chozik, neurosurgeon; Dr. Howard Lantner, neurosurgeon; Dr. James Mazzara, orthopedic surgeon; Dr. David Walters, colorectal surgeon.
• The Connecticut General Assembly’s Italian-American Legislative Caucus Educational Fund recognized John Alcorn with the annual Italian American of the Year award. Alcorn is the associate director of Italian programs and assistant professor of Italian studies at Trinity College.
• Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center received a $100,000 grant from the client grant program of the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority for programs dealing with lead-paint poisoning and child abuse.
