Hartford Boathouse Wins Design Honor

Riverfront Recapture’s boathouse in Hartford’s Riverside Park has earned an “Excellence on the Waterfront” award for its “design with nature” approach” in the Waterfront Center’s annual international competition. The Greater Hartford Jaycees Community Boathouse is home to Riverfront Recapture’s community rowing program and its second-floor room and porch are rented for private parties. The $3.6 million boathouse, which opened in 2002, was funded entirely by contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations as part of a capital campaign run by the nonprofit Riverfront Recapture. This is the second “Excellence on the Waterfront” award for Riverfront Recapture. In 1997, the organization was cited for its landscaped plaza over I-91.

Webster Banks A ‘Good Apple’

Connecticut Appleseed Center for Law and Justice Inc. has selected Webster Bank as winner of the Good Apple Award for its philanthropy in the community and support of Connecticut Appleseed initiatives that serve the state’s at-risk population. Webster was cited for its support of Connecticut Mission of Mercy, which organizes free dental care clinics for the state’s at-risk population, and Bank on Connecticut, a new program to encourage the un-banked and under-banked individuals to join the mainstream banking system by establishing no or low cost checking or savings accounts.

Telecommute Program Honored

Telecommute Connecticut has been named this year’s recipient of the international Association for Commuter Transportation’s Cathy Cole Memorial Award for Telework. Telecommute Connecticut is a service of the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Connecticut Commuter Services. The program provides free assistance to employers to design, develop, implement and maintain telecommuting best practices in order to relieve traffic congestion.

Group Elects Essex Man

Wayne D’Amico of Essex was elected first vice president of the CCIM Institute, an international commercial real estate organization with 16,000 members. The institute confers the Certified Commercial Investment Member designation to qualified commercial real estate and allied professionals. He will assume the presidency of the institute in 2013 and will be the first CCIM national president to hail from Connecticut. D’Amico is president and principal of Property Politics, a commercial real estate development, brokerage, and advisory firm based in Essex. He is a 23-year commercial real estate veteran and has been involved in commercial real estate projects totaling nearly $250,000,000. 

Also … John Wolfe of Cheshire, vice president of government and public affairs for Cox Communications’ New England and Cleveland, Ohio operations, has been named chairman of the board of the New England Cable & Telecommunications Association … David W. Carter of Simsbury, senior vice president, marketing and communications for Magellan Health Services, has been elected president of the Board of Directors at the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford … Tanya A. Bovée, a partner at Jackson Lewis LLP in Hartford, is a recipient of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association’s “Best Lawyers Under 40” award… Henry M. Beck Jr., a partner in Halloran & Sage’s transactional department and leader of the firm’s mergers and acquisitions and securities law practice groups, was recently appointed chair of the executive committee of the business law section of the Connecticut Bar Association.
