‘PLAY FOR A CURE’ RAISES $80,000

Women in Construction Honor Fusco
Lynn R. Fusco, president and CEO of Fusco Corp. and Fusco Management Co., has been named the first recipient of the Woman of Accomplishment in the Architectural / Engineering / Construction Industry award presented by Professional Women in Construction — Connecticut Chapter.
Fusco, who has worked with the Fusco companies for over 30 years, is the only female president and CEO of a construction company in the Northeast with an annual volume of over $400 million. The Fusco Group is the highest private taxpaying company in the City of New Haven and its clients include Yale University, the Connecticut Judicial Branch and State of Connecticut College System, and the Department of Transportation.
She is the chair of the board of directors of CT Public Television, as well as serving on the boards of Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang and Albertus-Magnus College.
The award was presented Sept. 21 at the USS Chowder Pot IV Restaurant in Hartford.

Aetna Honored For Donor Program
Aetna has registered thousands of employees nationwide as potential bone marrow donors, earning the company the Admiral Zumwalt Corporate Award from the National Marrow Donor Program. Aetna accepted the award at the NMDP’s 23rd annual council meeting recently in Minneapolis.
For the past five years, Aetna has implemented employee education sessions, conducted and organized fundraisers, and held in person and online donor registry drives. The result: more than $160,000 raised and 120 donor registry drives that have added 1,600 employees to the Be The Match Registry — 40 percent of whom are of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. Two employees have gone on to donate bone marrow to patients in need.

Architectural Firm Turns 25, Expands
Hartford architectural firm Amenta/Emma celebrated its 25th anniversary Oct. 6 by announcing it was expanding and opening a Fairfield County office. The company has been involved in the planning, design, and construction of some of the region’s most high-profile projects, including the Front Street District, the Connecticut Convention Center, and Blue Back Square.

Hughes Health Notes 50th Anniversary
Members of the Avon Education Foundation marked the 50-year anniversary of Hughes Health & Rehabilitation, a 170-bed rehabilitation center located in an historic home in West Hartford, by helping plant 50 daffodil bulbs that will bloom on its Highland Street premises next spring. “It’s only fitting that we beautify the place many have called home during these past 50 years,” said Mark Finkelstein, vice president and administrator of Hughes Health & Rehabilitation.
