• The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has elected Mark S. DeFrancesco as its secretary. Dr. DeFrancesco is one of the founders and serves on the Board of Directors of Physicians for Women’s Health, LLC, in Avon. He also serves on the Board of Women’s Health Connecticut and heads his own practice in Waterbury.
• Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center has again been recognized with a Partner for Change Award from Practice Greenhealth, a national membership organization for healthcare facilities committed to environmentally responsible operations. This marks the third consecutive year that Saint Francis has received the award, which recognizes its work toward mercury reduction and pollution prevention.
• The Tolland County Bar Association presented its Liberty Bell Award to William J. McGurk, president and chief executive officer of Rockville Bank. The Somers resident was honored at the organization’s Law Day Ceremonies earlier this month for his community service in promoting a better understanding and appreciation of the law.
• Max Downtown held a Mother’s Day luncheon on May 8 to support the local Go Red For Women movement. Max Downtown donated $10 from each ticket to benefit the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement. Along with lunch, there was a fashion catwalk hosted by Debbie Wright of Project Closet. Models represented local Go Red For Women volunteer leaders and survivor ambassadors, including this year’s co-chairwomen Kay Mooney and Deanna Fidler from Aetna. Models’ hair and makeup was done courtesy of Shari Phillips from Per Se Aveda Salonspa located in Blue Back Square, West Hartford. Phillips and her husband, Matthew, have pledged $1 million in support of the Phillips Women’s Heart Program at Saint Francis.
• The Santa Rita winery in Chile is sponsoring a “Heroes in Your Life Contest” and Loretta Dyson has nominated her son David Dyson, event manager of the 16th annual Tabor Tag sale/auction. If he wins, Tabor House AIDS residences in Hartford would receive $10,000. Voting ends June 15 at http://www.santaritacares.com/heroes/story_1.asp.
