• The University of Connecticut Health Center held its inaugural White Coat Gala April 10 at the Hartford Marriott Downtown. Nearly 500 people attended. The event grossed more than $450,000 in support of Health Center clinician-scientists. Dr. Lawrence G. Raisz, osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease expert at the center, was the honoree.

 

• The Village for Families & Children Inc. was chosen for the second year in a row as the beneficiary of the Connecticut Society of Pediatric Dentistry’s annual fundraiser to commemorate February’s National Pediatric Dentistry Month. This year’s fundraiser collected more than $4,000 for the Village’s Home Away from Home Champions for Children Bicentennial Campaign renovation project. The society, comprised of 87 Connecticut pediatric dentists, is dedicated to education, practice and research.

• New Britain-based Celebration Foods used its first corporate team building event to surprise 16 lucky kids with brand new bicycles at the Mystic Marriott Hotel in Groton. This event brought employees together to create greater bonds through group exercises. The team building event coordinated by L.E.A.D, a company whose goal is to develop individual and organizational excellence through unique experiential programs, resulted in the donation of 16 brand new rally bikes to eight children from the Boys & Girls Club of New Britain and eight children from the Klingberg Family Center.
