• Just eight months into its existence, the new Connecticut Science Center in downtown Hartford has served its 250,000th visitor. Since opening in June 2009, the Science Center has welcomed a diverse array of visitors including residents from all 169 cities and towns in the state of Connecticut. Almost 20 percent of visitors come from out of state, including more than a dozen countries.
• In an effort to give back to the West Hartford community, Blue Back Dental, a full-service, family dental practice in Blue Back Square, created the Gift of Good Teeth program, an essay contest open to West Hartford families suffering a financial, physical or emotional hardship. After receiving numerous qualified entrants, Blue Back Dental announced that two families have been chosen to receive a year of free dental services.
• Cirque du Soleil will return to Hartford with its latest big top touring production OVO. It will premiere on June 17 for a limited engagement under the trademark blue-and-yellow Grand Chapiteau (Big Top) on Market Street in Hartford. The cast of OVO comprises 54 performing artists from 13 countries.
