Coach Named MS Luncheon Speaker
University of Connecticut women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma, the 2006 MS Hope Award recipient, will be a featured speaker at this year’s NBC Connecticut Women Against MS Luncheon on Nov. 5 at the Marriott Hartford Downtown in Hartford. Auriemma is widely known as the most successful women’s basketball coach in history, amassing 735 wins, seven national championships and four perfect seasons in his 25 years as coach at UConn. The National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter honored Auriemma in 2006 with the MS Hope Award in recognition of his contributions to the community.

Finalist in tagline contest
Connecticut Association of Nonprofits is a finalist in the Getting Attention Nonprofit Tagline Awards competition for its tagline “We help Connecticut nonprofits help Connecticut.” The tagline contest’s categories include four types of nonprofit organizations — organizational, program, fundraising and event — and 13 areas of focus. The website’s panel of judges selected 70 finalists to compete for the awards. CT Nonprofits’ tagline was created in 2009 as part of a branding and messaging redesign following the launch of its new website.

Actuary Scholarship Awarded
Daniel DiMugno of South Windsor, a senior at Bryant University, has won the foundation’s Actuary of Tomorrow — Stuart A. Robertson Memorial Scholarship from Actuarial Foundation of Schaumburg, Ill. DiMugno, who is majoring in actuarial mathematics and minoring in environmental science, is the sole student recognized with this $7,500 scholarship. He is a peer tutor in Bryant’s Academic Center for Excellence and was a member of the university team that placed third in the nation in the 2nd Annual Actuarial Case Competition sponsored by Travelers Insurance.
