HARTFORD HOSPITAL DOCTOR RECEIVES INTERNATIONAL PRIZE

David Glahn of Hartford Hospital’s Institute of Living has received the Theodore Reich Prize from the International Society for Psychiatric Genetics, recognizing him for his research and published work in the field of psychiatric genetics. 

Dr. Glahn has published more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles, including his recent research to help find genes that influence schizophrenia, bipolar disorder (manic depression) and major depression. This research was aimed at identifying mental illness genes, and examining how they influence the brain and help increase the risk for these debilitating illnesses.

Dr. Glahn is also an associate professor in the department of psychiatry at Yale University.

FARMINGTON ROTARY HONORS STRAZZULLA

Patty Strazzulla, director of sales for Hampton Inn & Suites Hartford/Farmington was presented with the Paul Harris Fellowship Award from the Rotary Club of Farmington for contributions to the community and mankind. The club contributes $1,000 in the name of the recipient to the Rotary Foundation which underwrites many programs that build goodwill and understanding in the world.

Strazzulla’s dedication to volunteer work over the years has been extensive, including work for the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, The United Way, the Girl Scouts of the USA, CCARC, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the American Red Cross, various food banks, local YWCA and YMCA’s, Channel 3 Kids Camp, and Mosaic.

She joined the Hampton Inn & Suites Hartford/Farmington hotel in June 2009, while the hotel was still under construction. The hotel is owned and operated by Buffalo Lodging Associates LLC.

QUINNIPIAC UNIVERSITY RECOGNIZED

The Corporation for National and Community Service has honored Quinnipiac University in Hamden as a leader among institutions of higher education for its support of volunteering, service-learning, and civic engagement. Quinnipiac was admitted to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for engaging its students, faculty and staff in meaningful service that achieves measurable results in the community.

HARTFORD ATTORNEY SELECTED

Bankruptcy and finance attorney Marie Pollio, an associate in the Hartford office of Shipman & Goodwin LLP, has been selected to participate in the Next Generation Program at the annual National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges. The program is designed to bring together distinguished bankruptcy judges from around the country and attorneys who will become the leaders of the next generation of bankruptcy practitioners. Pollio has extensive experience representing secured and unsecured creditors in bankruptcy and reorganization matters, and has been actively involved in representing institutional creditors for some of the nation’s largest Chapter 11 cases.
