• When top management from all 115 Price Chopper Supermarkets met in Hartford for the company’s annual fall holiday business show, the Connecticut Convention Center’s exhibition hall was transformed into a supermarket with rows of foods and products. When the multiday event ended, Price Chopper donated 30,000 pounds of nutritious produce and other food to Foodshare.
• Prudential Connecticut Realty’s Simsbury and Granby offices have already reached $100 million in sales volume in 2008, according to Liz Taft, leader of both offices. The combined offices form a team of 88 agents selling residential real estate in the Farmington Valley.
• The state has approved a $290,000 low-interest loan to Alden Tool Company Inc. of Berlin for the purchase of new machinery, which will enable the company to expand its operations and create 10 jobs over the next three years. The company will use the loan to acquire a new CNC precision tool grinding machine in order to double its capacity in manufacturing small diameter drills and reamers used in surgery. The company currently employs 25 people.
• Wright-Pierce, a New England provider of water, wastewater and infrastructure engineering services, recently announced two new developments in the firm’s commitment to sustainable design practices. Wright-Pierce, which has an office in Middletown, has become a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), and Cathy J. Bracy joins the ranks of other Wright-Pierce professionals as the most recent to earn the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP) credentials.
• Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut is ranked 7th in the nation out of 287 health insurance plans, according to U.S. News & World Report/National Committee for Quality Assurance America’s Best Health Plans 2008-09. This recognition is the result of overall performance in clinical care measures, member satisfaction and NCQA accreditation.
