MORRIS ELECTED TO CANCER PARTNERSHIP BOARD

Anne Morris, executive director of the Connecticut affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, has been elected to the board of directors of the Connecticut Cancer Partnership. The partnership, created in 2002 and comprised of key stakeholders in cancer prevention and control, is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating a statewide comprehensive cancer control plan which aims to reduce the burden of cancer and assist individuals throughout the course of the disease.

CRT HANDS OUT COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS

The Community Renewal Team recently held its annual meeting and honored local businesses and organizations that contributed time and resources to communities in Central Connecticut in conjunction with CRT throughout the year. UPS, Comcast and Knox Parks received community service awards for their efforts.

JEWISH COMMUNITY HONORS FUNDILLER-ZWEIG

Colleagues, friends and family from the Greater Hartford area recently came together to recognize and thank Doreen Fundiller-Zweig, who is retiring after 18 years of service to the Jewish community in her role as president and CEO of the Jewish Community Foundation. As a center for Jewish philanthropy in Greater Hartford, the Jewish Community Foundation works with individuals and families to create meaningful personal legacies and empowers donors to convert generous ideas into deliberate action.

UCONN’S marie SMITH RECEIVES PHARMACY INNOVATION AWARD

Dr. Marie A. Smith has been named the recipient of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Research and Education Foundation’s 2011 Award for Innovation in Pharmacy Practice — one of just five such awards given annually as part of the foundation’s Literature Awards Program. The program recognizes original, significant contributions to biomedical literature by pharmacists. Dr. Smith is the Henry A. Palmer Professor in Community Pharmacy Practice and the assistant dean of practice and public policy partnerships at the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy. Her winning article, “Why Pharmacists Belong in the Medical Home,” was co-authored by David W. Bates, Thomas Bodenheimer and Paul Cleary.

FUSION CROSS-MEDIA lands INDUSTRY ACCOLADE

Manchester’s Fusion Cross-Media recently won a Pinnacle Award for Best of Category in Digital Printing: Variable Data Printing, Division I, from the Printing Industries of New England for a project produced for Enfield’s A.W. Hastings & Co. The competition attracted more than 200 entries from 30 printing and imaging companies across New England competing in a variety of printing and graphic communications categories such as best annual report, direct mail campaign and corporate identity package.

Gerber Technology, part of Gerber Scientific in Tolland, has received the 2011 Frost & Sullivan Global Fashion Product Lifecycle Management Product Leadership Award for its YuniquePLM solution. The awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service and strategic product development.
