Chamber honors Maneely’s as business of the year

The South Windsor Chamber of Commerce named Maneeley’s Banquet Facility & Catering LLC as its business of the year at the group’s annual Business & Expansion Awards ceremony March 29. The dinner, fittingly, was held at Maneeley’s Banquet Facility.

Others honored are:

Berlin student WINS GRANT

Daniyal N. Khan, a student at Berlin High School has won a national video contest for his video about the element hydrogen and has been invited to Philadelphia to receive his award from the Chemical Heritage Foundation.

His video won the individual category in the It’s Elemental video contest, part of the foundation’s program to promote the International Year of Chemistry. Khan and 10 others will receive $5,000 grants sponsored by Dow Chemical Co.

Vantis director honored

The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference has honored David Grossman, a regional director at Vantis Life Insurance Co., for his ongoing contributions to high school girls’ basketball. The merit award was presented at a gala reception at the Mohegan Sun Cabaret Theatre on March 18, prior to the state high school basketball championship game. Grossman officiated that game, his last as he retires after more than 30 years of involvement with high school sports.

Grossman has served as chairman of the Connecticut Bankers Association’s retirement plans committee. He also is active in the American Institute of Banking/Center for Financial Training where he received the 1997 instructor of the year award.

YMCA honors Stearns

Judy Stearns of Glastonbury has been honored for her work in leading the Glastonbury Family Branch YMCA Strong Kids Annual Campaign at the Strong Kids Campaign Celebration held at Creative Catering in Glastonbury.

“Judy has done a wonderful job in motivating our volunteer fundraisers,” said James Morton, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Hartford.

The Strong Kids Annual Campaign provides financial resources increasing the YMCA’s ability to provide values based programs and activities to people in the Greater Hartford region, regardless of their ability to pay.
