WETHERSFIELD ARCHITECTURE FIRM HONORED FOR INDIAN VALLEY YMCA
Moser Pilon Nelson Architects, a firm offering pre-design, planning, architecture and interior design services, has been awarded the 2011 Connecticut American Institute of Architects (AIA) People’s Choice Award for a commercial/industrial project for the new 42,000 square-foot Indian Valley Family YMCA in Ellington. In addition to a 5,000 square-foot fitness area, the facility contains an eight-lane, 25-yard competition pool, a warm water family pool and whirlpool. Future expansion plans include a gymnasium, teen center, climbing wall and community spaces.

THE CHILDREN’S MUSEUM APPOINTS BOARD MEMBERS, NAMES PRESIDENT
The Children’s Museum in West Hartford recently announced the appointments of Steven I. Adler and Emily Peregrim to its board of trustees.
Adler, a West Hartford councilman and legislative liaison to the Connecticut General Assembly, is manager of privacy and compliance for United Healthcare’s legal, compliance and regulatory affairs practice. Peregrim, a health service manager in the clinical program design area of Aetna International, is a certified health education specialist who has worked on the strategy, design, implementation and ongoing maintenance of wellness and disease management programs.
Robert Griesmer, former chief operating officer for the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, was recently selected as the museum’s president and CEO.

GREATER HARTFORD BNI UNVEILS LEADERSHIP TEAM
The Greater Hartford Chapter of Business Networking International recently elected its new leadership team for 2011-12, including: president Caitlin Buettel, Liberty Mutual; vice president Hallie Wong, Peter Bakker Insurance Co.; and secretary/treasurer Danielle Lutz, People’s United Bank. Business Networking International has more than 5,000 chapters worldwide and 60 in Connecticut.

UTC CELEBRATES DIVERSE SUPPLIER NETWORK
United Technologies recently recognized its diverse group of global suppliers during the 10th Annual Diverse Business Exchange event at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, attended by more than 200 suppliers and UTC representatives. In the past four years, UTC has spent more than $4 billion with minority- and women-owned businesses.

CL&P’S KENNETH BOWES NAMED TO SPECIAL OLYMPICS CT BOARD
Special Olympics Connecticut recently announced that Kenneth Bowes, vice president of energy delivery services at Connecticut Light & Power, has been named to its board of directors. Bowes, who held several engineering and management positions at Northeast Utilities, was appointed to CL&P’s senior leadership team in 2008 as vice president of customer operations. He has been a Special Olympics volunteer, including serving as honorary co-chair of Team Connecticut for the USA National Games last year in Nebraska.
