SAUNDERS GAINS EMERITUS STATUS ON BOARD OF INTERVAL HOUSE
Judith E. Saunders, a CPA at Filomeno & Co., has been named as a board member emeritus at Interval House, an organization dedicated to providing services to prevent and break the cycle of family and intimate partner abuse. Emeritus status is given to board members who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to the organization.
Saunders — whose involvement with Interval House began nearly 15 years ago — has held a variety of roles in the organization, including treasurer and president. She continues to serve on the Finance Committee.

GAY, CHIUSANO NAMED TO CITIZEN’S ETHICS BOARD
The Citizen’s Ethics Advisory Board, part of the Connecticut Office of State Ethics, which administers the Codes of Ethics for public officials, state employees and lobbyists, recently selected Maj. Gen. David W. Gay (Ret.), a Windsor resident, to serve as its chairman, and Fairfield businessman Charles F. Chiusano to serve as vice-chairman.
Gay, appointed to the board in 2009 by then Gov. M. Jodi Rell, served as adjutant general of the Connecticut National Guard from 1992 to 1999. His military career began in 1953 where he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He then enlisted in the Guard in 1960 as a PFC and served in several positions and disciplines at various levels.
Chiusano, appointed in 2010 by Senate Minority Leader John McKinney, retired from his position last year as vice president of Avant Business Services Corp., formerly Airline Delivery Services, which has offices in New York City, Stamford, and Hartford.

USB’S SCHERBNER ELECTED VICE PRESIDENT OF LITCHFIELD AREA BUSINESS ASSOCIATION
Gina Scherbner, vice president and business development officer at Union Savings Bank, was recently elected to a one-year term as vice president of the Litchfield Area Business Association.
Union Savings, headquartered in Danbury, is a $2.5 billion mutual bank providing banking, mortgage, investment, trust and insurance products throughout western Connecticut with 29 regional offices in Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Canton, Danbury, Kent, New Fairfield, Goshen, Litchfield, Marble Dale, Monroe, New Milford, Newtown, Ridgefield, Roxbury, Sharon, Southbury, Torrington and Washington Depot.
Scherbner manages business development for the bank’s Torrington and Litchfield markets.

UCAC NAMES 2011 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
The Utility Contractors Association of Connecticut recently awarded $6,000 in scholarships to sons and daughters of its members. Recipients for 2011 include: Tyler D’Onofrio, Sarah Wilson, and Kyle Girard. The 2011 UCAC Scholarship Auction will be held on Nov. 12 at the Gallery in Glastonbury at 6 p.m.
