• Press Ganey Associates Inc. has named MidState Medical Center a 2008 Press Ganey Success Story Award winner. Press Ganey is a surveyor of patient, staff and physician satisfaction, and presents its Success Story Award to organizations that have demonstrated innovation and cultural change to improve patient care as well as physician and employee satisfaction. Only six of Press Ganey’s 3,500 clients receive the award. MidState won for enhancing physician satisfaction. According to its most recent physician survey, MidState ranked in the 98th percentile in overall physician satisfaction.
• The First National Bank of Litchfield, which operates a branch in Canton, was the recipient of the 2008 Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Eagle Award in the category of Emerging Lender. The award was based on the bank’s rapid and significant SBA lending growth in 2008, with a 23 percent increase in loans closed over 2007, of which more than a third were given to women-owned and operated businesses.
• Gov. M. Jodi Rell has announced that three Connecticut universities will share a total of more than $900,000 in grants to test biofuel quality and study different production methods and feedstocks, while a total of $2.2 million in grants to four biodiesel production facilities is expected to leverage at least $6 million in private investment. Production facilities receiving the grants are: Greenleaf Biofuels LLC ($1,281,322), a biodiesel production plant in New Haven Harbor area; DBS Energy Inc. ($503,844) a proposed biodiesel-to-electricity production facility in East Hartford; BioDiesel One Ltd., ($83,566) a biodiesel production facility in Southington; and CT Biodiesel LLC ($350,000), a biodiesel production facility in the New Haven Harbor area.
• As one of the school’s first primary marketing initiatives, the Yale School of Engineering & Applied Science (SEAS) has launched a new, interactive Web site. The new site was created with interactive brand firm Fathom, based on Allyn Street in Hartford. With Fathom’s help, Yale has created an online connection to on-campus activity. The Web tools include: a calendar of events; an area that showcases research; and a directory for easy accessibility to the dean and faculty.
