CHAMBER NAMES BLEZARD BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR
Michael R. Blezard has been named the South Windsor Chamber of Commerce’s Business Person of the Year.
He is a certified public accountant and partner in the accounting firm of Pue, Chick,Leibowitz & Blezard LLC and has served two terms as president of the South Windsor Chamber. He also served on the Board of Directors for a decade, chaired the program and golf tournament committees and held a variety of other posts.
Blezard also is a past president of the South Windsor Rotary Club, and is a Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary’s highest honor. He is a board member of the South Windsor Community Foundation, is a corporator of the Eastern Connecticut Health Network and is both is treasurer and a board member of the ECHN Women’s Center for Wellness.
The South Windsor Chamber will present the award during the annual dinner meeting Sept. 27 at Maneeley’s Banquet Facility and Catering LLC in South Windsor.

LONG ELECTED TO BOARD
Raymond G. Long, vice president of government affairs at NRG Energy in Middletown, is the only Connecticut representative among 10 people elected to the Board of Directors of The New England Council, a non-partisan alliance of businesses, academic and health institutions, and public and private organization.
The board is chaired by John Hailer, CEO of Natixis Global Asset Management. The council is based in Boston.

FOUNDATION ELECTS TWO
The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford Board of Trustees has elected David R. Miller to a two-year term as chair of the Jewish Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees. Miller is managing director and portfolio manager at Conning & Co.
Also, Leigh A. Newman has been elected to the board. Newman is senior counsel in the individual clients department at Day Pitney LLP.

LERER ELECTED TO BOARD
René Lerer of Avon was recently elected to the board of directors of HIAS, the international migration agency of the American Jewish community. HIAS, the oldest refugee rescue and resettlement agency in the United States, is celebrating its 130th anniversary this year.
Dr. Lerer, a former refugee, was assisted by HIAS when he and his family arrived in the U.S.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS ADDS DIRECTOR
Thomas Krywinski has joined the Board of Directors of Special Olympics Connecticut.
Most recently, he was partner-in-charge of the tax department at BlumShapiro. He also spent eight years at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, and then joined Cahill, Larkin & Company as partner. When the firm merged with McGladrey & Pullen in 1989, Krywinski then became a partner in McGladrey & Pullen’s New Haven office.
Special Olympics Connecticut serves 13,180 athletes with intellectual disabilities and partners (without intellectual disabilities) from across the state. Athletes and partners compete in 26 different Olympic-type sports. There are more than 100 local coordinators, 900 coaches and 10,000 additional volunteers.
