MERIDEN COMPANY NAMED REGION’S BEST ESOP

BL Companies of Meriden has been named company of the year by the New England Chapter of the The ESOP Association. The award honors the company’s commitment to employee ownership, as evidenced by its communications with employees, employee participation, wealth creation, and individual dignity and worth.

BL Companies became an employee-owned company in 2006 with the establishment of an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).

BL Companies delivers integrated architecture, engineering and environmental services to public and private clients for land development, building design, and infrastructure projects. The company, founded in 1986, has seven offices in Connecticut, New York, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

MidState named most wired hospital

For the second consecutive year in a row, MidState Medical Center in Meriden has been named one of the most wired hospitals in the nation for its use of information technology.

The survey was administered in cooperation with the American Hospital Association, McKesson Corp., and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives. It recognizes hospitals for achievements in four key areas of focus, including infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, and the care continuum.

This year, MidState was judged to excel in information transfers through data systems, wireless and enterprise-wide networks, medical imaging and independent physician-office electronic medical records.

Comcast executive honored

Janet Uthman, vice president of marketing and sales for Comcast’s Western New England Region, was among 12 in the nation honored with a Luminary Award by the National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications.

The award celebrates her business acumen, managerial expertise and demonstrated leadership exemplifying group’s mission of championing equity and inclusion in the workforce.

Uthman oversees all marketing and sales initiatives for Comcast’s Western New England region, which serves over 800,000 customers in more than 300 communities across Connecticut, Western Massachusetts, New York and Vermont.

She serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Hartford Urban League and volunteers as a “Big Sister” to a 10-year-old girl through the Comcast / Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters’ “Beyond School Walls” program.

Dinan named to invention board

Laura Dinan of Connecticut Light & Power recently was named to the board of the Connecticut Invention Convention, which is the oldest continuously running children’s invention convention in the nation. Dinan is a coordinator in economic development and community relations for the utility.

She also recently was appointed Area 34 governor of the District 53 Toastmasters.

Lawyer elected to board

William J. Ronalter, a partner in the Hartford office of Shipman & Goodwin LLP, has been elected to the Board of Governors of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association. Ronalter has 20 years of experience handling personal injury and wrongful death cases. He is also a member of the National Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice.
