HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION HONORS BORGSTROM

Marna P. Borgstrom, president and chief executive officer for Yale-New Haven Hospital and Yale New Haven Health System, was presented the Connecticut Hospital Association’s Grassroots Champion Award for leadership in effectively educating elected officials on how major issues affect the hospital’s role in the community. She has been at the forefront in representing Connecticut hospitals in her advocacy efforts, both in Hartford and in Washington., D.C.

Also at the group’s 94th annual meeting, Norwalk Hospital received John D. Thompson Award for Excellence in the Delivery of Healthcare Through the Use of Data for achieving exceptional stroke outcomes through effective data collection, analysis, and action.

Colleen Smith, vice president for nursing/chief nursing officer for Middlesex Hospital, was presented the T. Stewart Hamilton, MD, Distinguished Service Award for her service to the healthcare field.

KNOX JOINS BAR LADDER

Kimberly A. Knox, partner at the Horton Shields & Knox law firm in Hartford, has been named vice president of the Connecticut Bar Association. Under the group’s system of escalating roles, she will become bar president in 2013-14.

She and partner Wes Horton co-founded the bar’s Appellate Advocacy Institute, an intensive three-day appellate practice program, and she and attorney Daniel Klau founded and co-chaired the bar’s Appellate Advocacy Committee from 2006 to 2009. In addition, Knox is a member of the American Bar Association Judicial Division’s Institute of Appellate Counsel.

In her practice, she most frequently represents fellow attorneys in professional disciplinary matters, ethics consultations and bar admissions cases.

FOUNDATION NAMES DIRECTORS

Tunxis Community College Foundation and Advisory Board Inc. has named a host of new directors: Robert Voight, retired, Security — Connecticut Life Insurance Co.; Linda DiMatteo, executive assistant to the president and administrator, Central Connecticut Chambers of Commerce; James “Jay” Murdick, vice president/senior commercial loan officer, Thomaston Savings Bank; Scott Speaker, enterprise architect, Prudential Retirement Technology; state Rep. Elizabeth “Betty” Boukus, D-Plainville; Nancy Grassilli, professor emerita of marketing, Tunxis Community College.

The foundation, based in Farmington, has been supporting the students, programs and projects of Tunxis for 40 years.
