ROCKY HILL FIRM’S ARMED FORCES CENTER PROJECT CITED

Rocky Hill’s Kleinfelder and S E A Consultants Inc. has earned national recognition for engineering achievement in the American Council of Engineering Companies’ 46th annual Engineering Excellence Awards for its work on the new Armed Forces Reserve Center in Middletown. The project team was charged with creating a modern facility to support a wide range of reservist needs, and to mitigate public concerns about the potential effects of a large, military-style building on the community.

The project is among 147 engineering projects from throughout the nation recognized as preeminent engineering achievements for 2011. Judging for the awards was conducted by a panel of more than 30 engineers, architects, government representatives, media members and academics.

BLUMSHAPIRO PARTNER NAMED BOARD CHAIR OF BRIDGEPORT BIZ COUNCIL

Michael Niedermeier, a partner at BlumShapiro, has been elected to a one-year term as chairman of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council Board of Directors.

Niedermeier has been providing accounting, auditing and consulting services to clients in the construction, real estate, manufacturing, distribution, technology and professional service industries for more than 30 years. He has been associated with Price Waterhouse & Co., KPMG Peat Marwick, and served as managing principal of Nishball, Carp, Niedermeier, Pacowta & Co., P.C. from 1994 until the firm’s merger with BlumShapiro in January 2009.

ENFIELD RESIDENT NAMED COX COMMUNITY HERO

Marc Warnock, public access coordinator at Cox Communications for the past six years, has been named the Cox Charities Community Hero for his volunteer work with the Town of Enfield Child Development Center, an organization that provides quality child care.

Since 2010, Warnock has volunteered his time to film, edit and produce DVDs of the organization’s annual talent show. As a result of his commitment, the Town of Enfield Child Development Center will receive a $3,000 Cox Charities Grant to further support the organization’s programs. The Cox Charities Community Hero program recognizes employees who are actively involved as a volunteer with a nonprofit organization.

WIGGIN AND DANA LAWYERS CO-EDIT BOOK

Timothy A. Diemand, Joseph G. Grasso and Michael Menapace of Wiggin and Dana’s Insurance Practice Group are the co-editors, along with former colleague Charles Platto, of the American Bar Association’s “The Handbook on Additional Insureds.” The book, intended for attorneys and other insurance professionals, comprehensively addresses issues relating to additional insureds that concern both insurers and policyholders. Topics addressed include hold harmless and indemnification agreements, the memorialization of additional insured status, the various additional insured endorsements used in the industry, scope of coverage, notice requirements and limits, the laws of various jurisdictions, including Canada and the U.K., and the concerns associated with specific lines of insurance, including D&O, construction, marine and aviation.
