• Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced the state is now accepting applications for $225 million in special bonding available through a new federal stimulus program for eligible shovel-ready construction projects throughout the state. The governor said $90 million is for tax credit bonding for governmental-purpose projects by cities and towns, among others, and $135 million is for private sector projects. Sixty-two communities in Connecticut are eligible for this self-sustaining financing.
• S E A Consultants Inc. of Rocky Hill was named to the CE News and Structural Engineer Top Performers list, which highlights the nation’s most successful civil and structural engineering firms. The selected firms were featured in the September 2009 issue of CE News and will appear in the November 2009 issue of Structural Engineer. To be included, firms must meet or exceed the median for three out of four of the following metrics: growth, profitability, backlog, and revenue. The median will be determined from the applicant pool.
• With the aim of identifying adult patients at risk of certain cancers triggered by gene mutation, The Hospital of Central Connecticut (HCC) has launched a regional genetic counseling and testing program. The program will also include Hartford Hospital and St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. The goal is to identify people at increased risk for cancer due to their genetic makeup and empower them, through counseling, to make decisions regarding possible treatment. The counseling program will be at each hospital.
• On Aug. 18, Kelly Financial Group hosted an evening at the Connecticut Science Center, donating $5,900 to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center division of hematology and oncology.
