• Trinity College Hillel received a gift of $306,000 from former Trinity College Trustee Henry M. Zachs, who pledged to match, one-for-one, new and increased gifts received from parents, alumni, and friends directed toward building Hillel’s endowment. “Increasing Hillel’s dedicated endowment,” said Zachs, “will allow programs to become self-sustaining, ensuring a vibrant Hillel well into the future.”
• Saint Joseph College has announced the establishment of five schools to reinforce its mission as a comprehensive institution with career-focused undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs. The five schools are: education; graduate and professional studies; health and natural science; humanities and social science; and pharmacy. “The establishment of these five schools provides further focus to Saint Joseph College’s high-quality academic programs and offers a value-centered education that prepares students as global citizens, lifelong learners and informed decision makers,’ said Saint Joseph College President Pamela Trotman Reid.
• Post University has established a scholarship program with the Greater Waterbury branch of the NAACP. In partnership with the local branch of the NAACP, Post University will provide 10-$5,000 scholarships to qualified students who apply to and are accepted to Post University for the fall 2009 academic year. The scholarships will be renewable for four years provided the recipient continues to make satisfactory academic progress. The funds will be made available to new freshman students who are accepted and enroll in Post’s undergraduate program at its Waterbury campus.
