Standard Builders of Newington, a mid-size construction management firm, reached 1,000 days without a lost time accident on Monday, May 25. A long-time proponent of job site safety and company loss control, Standard Builders has consistently won awards from AGC of Connecticut, the Connecticut Construction Industries Association, and the AGC of America for its excellent safety record and practices.

 

Gov. M. Jodi Rell has announced that the state is receiving $15.4 million in federal stimulus funds for its broad-based state energy plan designed to expand fuel cell initiatives, help homeowners and businesses reduce energy costs with alternative technologies, improve the efficiency of state-owned buildings and create green collar jobs to meet the needs of the emerging technologies.

Manchester Community College is launching a new program that would provide computer-based training to companies that don’t have a physical computer lab on site. MCC’s Mobile Computer Cart program supports organizations that have computer-based training needs for employees, but don’t have the equipment or capabilities to conduct the training on site. The program brings computer technology directly to businesses, and offers customized training in specific software and other applications. 

 

Hughes Health & Rehabilitation in West Hartford announced it received notification it has won a Step 1 National Quality Award from the American Health Care Association. The West Hartford-based healthcare facility was honored for applying and demonstrating the principles of continuous quality improvement for long-term care organizations seeking the highest levels of performance and competitiveness.

The Perfect Promotion’s president, Jody Ferrer, donated her most prize possession to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund’s Promise Ball. The “Udder Hope” Cow raised more than $5,000 for the nonprofit organization’s event. Originally part of the 2007 Cow Parade in West Hartford, the cow was hand-painted by Marybeth Blonski. The cow embodies the hope and courage given to those that are faced with adversity, including the challenge of juvenile diabetes.
