• Kourosh Parham, researcher at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, received the Dennis W. Jahnigen Career Development Scholars Award from The American Geriatrics Society. Parham will receive a two-year grant of $200,000 to assist his career and education in the geriatrics aspect of his discipline. Parham is also assistant professor of otolaryngology in the hospital’s department of surgery division of otolaryngology.
• Kristina Zack, sales executive at Prudential Connecticut Realty in Enfield, received the Sales Executive of the Month Award for June 2008. Zack was recognized for her sales results and commitment to the company’s core values and vision of providing extraordinary service.
• Gary Gomola, partner at Mahoney Sabol & Co. in Middletown, received the Certified in Financial Forensics credential from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Gomola was recognized for forensic accounting expertise and core knowledge and skills.
• Full Capture Solutions Inc. in East Hartford was named a 2008 “Up and Coming Insurance Technology Firm” by Financial Insights. The company was recognized for its innovations in data analytics technology and leveraging semantic technology capabilities to search and extract value from unstructured insurance data.
• The University of Hartford in West Hartford received a $492,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. The funds will be used to evaluate potential economic benefits to electric utilities of photovoltaic systems to reduce power requirements during peak demand.
• Sanford & Hawley Inc. in Manchester received a Safety and Health Recognition Program Award from the Connecticut division of Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the U.S. Department of Labor. The company was recognized as a small employer operating an exemplary safety and health management system.
• Harry Gray, former chairman and CEO of United Technologies Corp. in Hartford, donated $2.5 million to the National Infantry Foundation. The donation was made in honor of the 2nd Infantry Regiment, the unit in which he served in World War II.
